THALES Defense and Security
The Liberty Multiband Land Mobile Radio
Communications interoperability for Federal, State, Local, and U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) agencies is a national priority. Existing solutions didn’t work at events like the Oklahoma City bombing, Hurricane Katrina, and 9/11. Radios were operating on different frequency bands, and first responders had to carry multiple radios to communicate with each other.
Thales Defense & Security, Inc. has leveraged our more than 12 years of Project 25 public safety experience with our unequaled software-defined radio technology base in the Department of Defense and, in 2008, introduced the Liberty Multiband Land Mobile Radio (LMR) to the market. The Liberty radio is a software-defined, portable LMR that enables emergency responders to communicate with partner agencies, regardless of radio frequency band.
